After completing his acting course at the Balu Mahendra Film Institute, Arun Rayadurgam discovered his true foundation not in front of the camera, but on stage.
Choosing the path of a freelancer, he immersed himself in Tamil Nadu’s vibrant and evolving theatre culture — a space that shaped both his craft and identity as an actor.
In his early days, Arun worked closely with some of the most respected names in theatre, including Bagu, a well‑known creative force. He also performed in stage productions curated by Veli Rangarajan, the editor of the popular Tamil theatre magazine Veli.
Another defining chapter in his journey came through his collaboration with veteran playwright and filmmaker Arulmozhi Sivaprakash.
Sivaprakash introduced Arun to Bagu, marking the start of a long‑lasting creative relationship that deeply influenced his artistic growth.Over the years, Arun became an integral part of the acclaimed theatre troupe Thinai Nilavasigal.
Under Bagu’s direction, he performed in several notable plays that tackled contemporary social issues. Deeply committed to the idea of theatre as social dialogue, Arun also took part in street theatre performances across India — connecting with people, communities, and their stories directly.
He firmly believes that acting should not be confined to auditoriums; it should live wherever people do.A highlight in his journey was the unwavering support of acclaimed actor Nasser.
He generously offered his Chengalpattu farmhouse as a rehearsal space for the troupe, creating a nurturing environment for emerging artists like Arun. That mentorship and encouragement allowed many young performers to explore their creative depth with confidence.
For Arun Rayadurgam, theatre has never been just a stepping stone — it has been a way of life. The discipline, honesty, and humility he learned from the stage continue to define his approach to acting today. He stands as a reminder that true artistry grows not from shortcuts, but from sincerity, collaboration, and an enduring respect for the craft.
